This year we are continuing with the successful spelling scheme we used last year.
Spelling is a very important part of the new Curriculum, as well as in every day life. When learning your weekly spellings, look at the files attached which include different games and strategies you can use to help you learn. If you ever find your spellings too tricky or overwhelming, it it much better to choose 3-5 to learn off by heart, then to 'kind of know' all 10.
Spelling can be tricky, but remember... give it a go! How many ways can you spell the word? Which looks right?
Spelling is a vital part of the curriculum. We have 3 spelling lessons per week, which focuses on a particular spelling pattern. Each lesson has a warm up, this is where we practise the 'Spelling Strategy' and 'Tricky' words which are attached.
There is also a Year 5/6 spelling list (attached), which is the level of words children are expected to spell by the end of KS2. Each term, we look at the Year 5/6 spelling list and create a word bank linked to our topic. This helps us practise the words and apply in our daily writing.
We learn spellings through practice, fun games and a positive attitude!
