PSHE & RSE

We follow the Jigsaw Scheme for PSHE and RSE.

This is a carefully mapped out scheme based around 6 common themes that are built on as the children progress through the school.

We seek to equip our children with the skills and attributes to thrive in life and to make a positive contribution to society. Our focus is for every child to become a healthy, independent and responsible member of society.

Aim

Our aim is to empower pupils through PSHE lessons and assemblies giving them opportunities to develop confidence and gain an understanding of their rights and responsibilities within our school, local community and the wider world.

We use the Jigsaw PSHE scheme which covers six key areas of learning:

  • Identity and self esteem
  • Equality and diversity
  • Being ambitious
  • Being healthy
  • Good relationships
  • Changing me.

We teach the core British values through our Jigsaw scheme covering:

  • democracy;
  • the rule of law;
  • individual liberty;
  • mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith.

We map the sequence of learning on our Curriculum Overviews, but you can find a summary of the key learning here

Here is a guide for parents to help understand the Jigsaw scheme.

We know the importance to children about having a secure understanding of relationship and sex education. We teach this element of the curriculum offer at Farrington Gurney in the summer term. We engage our parents in this teaching by supplying them with the document here which shows a brief overview of what we are teaching in the 'Changing Me' unit. This document also gives parents a selection of questions they can  ask at home to continue the learning.
